If you love exploring underwater, make sure to include a day trip to the Surin Islands in your Thailand itinerary. This archipelago of five islands, located in the Andaman Sea, is a true snorkeling paradise! We booked a day trip from Khao Lak through GetYourGuide and had an unforgettable experience.
First stop of the day is the Sea Gypsy Moken Village called Ao Bon Yai, where 300 sea nomads settled permanently. You’ll immediately recognize their boats that resemble long tails, although theirs don’t have an engine! The village is a nice way of learning about local culture or buying hand-made souvenirs.
After this, it’s time for your first snorkeling-sesh of the day, at Mai Yai Gulf. The corals here are the most beautiful we’ve ever seen so take it all in right away! We even spotted a blue starfish here. The waters are so clear, although we can say that about all snorkeling spots of the day. ;-) The tour also includes a lunch on the beach.
After lunch, it is time for the highlight of the day: spotting Nemo! Yes, you can see over 40 families of clownfish hiding in the anemones of Nemo Bay. This was our favorite part of the day, we’re not going to lie. After snorkeling with Nemo, there’s still one snorkeling spot on the agenda although nothing beats swimming with those cute clownfish. After that, it is time to head back with a full stomach and full camera roll!
