A first taste of Hemsedal

The second location of our road trip through central Norway: Hemsedal. A two-hour drive from Hedalen and a perfect spot for hikes, views, wildlife spotting (and skiing in winter). After you get settled, let's go on a small hike!

Getting there

Hemsedal is only a 2-hour drive away from Hedalen and is a lot busier than the previous location. Get your batteries charged, your groceries done or go to a store to up your gear - not evident in Norway. We stayed in a cabin that is mainly used in the winter season but it was perfect for this trip: near the center and river yet very quiet. Link for the airbnb is below.

Hike to Storhovda

A perfect hike to do in the evening or morning as a small break: the road up to Storhovda is easy and short. Park your car at the Gravset Skiarena (if you come from Hemsedal, to your left) and start the climb up to 1.075 m. Total length is 3.5 km and elevation gain is 244 meters. Although this hike is short and easy, the views over Storevatnet and the other lakes of Hemsedal are rewarding. On the other side, you can see the Skogshodn which you can also climb (around 10 km and 800 m of ascent with some scrambling at the top).
