The Trvdos Monastery is an beautiful hidden gem. This Orthodox monastery complex, located in the south of Bosnia& Hercegovina, is a beautiful place to walk around and take some photos. There were no other people so a real peacefull place that has not been discovered by many tourists yet.
The monastery complex, built in the 15th century has a rich history. This monastery was destroyed in 1694 by the Venetians and was later rebuilt in 1924. The monastery is built on the remains of a Roman church from the 4th century. This place also reminded me a lot of the Meteora monasteries in Greece, which are built in the same Orthodox style. The monastery is also known for its wine production and, therefore, has two wine cellars.
Since the monastery is in the south of Bosnia&Hercegovina is ideal to visit if you are on the way to Montenegro from Croatia / Bosnia. It is also close to Dubrovnik which is just 45 minutes away! So if you're in southern Bosnia, it's definitely worth stopping by here! For more beautiful and unique places, take a look at my Daymaker page!
