Day 3: Tokyo to Kanazawa
Board the Shinkansen at Tokyo Station for a 3-hour journey to Kanazawa. But first, make sure to visit one last important sight in Tokyo: the Tokyo Imperial Palace.
Start your day at Kokyo, the Tokyo Imperial Palace
You can’t leave Tokyo without visiting Kokyo, the residence of Japan’s Imperial Family. Although the Emperor’s residence is private, you can explore much of the stunning Imperial Palace grounds. The East Gardens, or Higashi Gyoen, are especially popular for their serene atmosphere, traditional Japanese gardens, meticulously landscaped lawns, and remnants of Edo Castle.
A 20-minute walk will take you to your lunch spot of the day.
Lunch at Kura Sushi
We saved the best for last: the best conveyor belt sushi in Tokyo! Kura Sushi serves up delicious sushi at affordable prices. The concept is simple: sushi plates glide along a conveyor belt, and you pick what you want or order via a tablet. No waiters, just you and your choices, with the bill calculated by plate count. How cool is that?
A 10-minute walk will take you to Tokyo station.
Bullet train to Kanazawa
Take the bullet train to Kanazawa, which takes about 3 hours.
