Secret Beach Mirissa, Mirissa, Sri Lanka

Secret Beach

Secret Beach is a beautiful small, secluded beach, only a short distance from Mirissa Beach. It is a bit hard to get there as the road is steep, narrow and winding. The last 200 metres of the road are so bad that you will have to park your scooter and walk. On the last stretch before the beach, as you make your way down the hill, there is a friendly family selling coconuts and water to help with the heat. Once you arrive at Secret Beach, there are 2 beautiful beaches to choose from, each with its own unique characteristics, from rockpools to coconut palm trees. - Main Beach: The first beach you see when you arrive opens out into the open ocean. It's perfect if you want to go for a swim or snorkel and explore some sealife. - Lagoon Beach: The second beach just around the corner is a real gem. This beach is surrounded by a rocky outcrop which has created a small, shallow (waist deep) lagoon that is protected from the waves. The ocean here is perfectly calm and still in the lagoon which makes it perfect for chilling out in the water to stay cool.

Weligama, Sri Lanka

Catching waves at Weligama

Sri Lanka is known as a surfing hotspot. 🏄🏽‍♀️ One of the best places on Sri Lanka’s Southern coast to catch some (first) waves is Weligama, located in-between Galle and Mirissa. Due to its shallow sand beach and small, consistent waves, it is the ideal place for beginners to try out surfing. Weligama’s coastline covers a 2 kilometer long shallow beach and can therefore accommodate a lot of surfers, so you will always find a spot that isn’t too crowded. There are plenty of surf schools right on the beach to rent materials or take surf lessons. And after a fun and energy-burning hour of catching waves, you can relax and have some delicious foods and drink at one of the many beachside bars and restaurants and watch other suffers having a good time.
