Imagine waking up to the misty mountains and lush rice paddies of Sapa, Vietnam, welcomed by Mama Sa and her family at their charming homestay.
My journey began with an early morning arrival after a night bus ride to a nearby village. From there, Mama Sa's son, Su, led us on a six-hour trek through stunning mountain trails while our bags were transported ahead by truck.
Arriving at Mama Sa's homestay, we were greeted with open arms and delicious Vietnamese cuisine. Our group enjoyed a traditional dinner with the family, and we had a local beer during sunset over the rice fields.
We also tried some "happy water" (rice wine) while Mama Sa told us some stories and before going to sleep in our own cozy wooden rooms.
The next morning, I went on another trek, passing through an authentic village before catching a night bus to Ha Giang.
