Take a boat tour on the lake

From the village of Virpazar, a lot of tour operators offer boat trips on the Skadarsko Jezero (Skadar lake). This beautiful lake, the largest of Montenegro, stretches out to Albania. Make sure to book a tour that is long enough, and doesn't start at mid day. The mornings and evenings are the most beautiful. We chose a 5 hour tour with Boat Milica and loved every second of it. Beautiful views, explanation about the lake, birdspotting and some drinks: the first hours of the boat tour are what dreams are made of.

Enjoy a traditional fisherman's meal

Included in our tour was a lunch with a local family. Pedga and Lilja, our hosts, welcomed us when we arrived with the boat. Pedga catches fish in the morning, Lilja prepares it. We ate delicious fish crackers, fish soup and freshly caught carp. In western european countries it is very unusual to eat carp, but in Montenegro it is a delicacy. No meal is complete without the liquor 'Rakja' so do ask about this strong little fellow. They drink it before lunch, to help digestion flow.

Take a swim in the lake

What's better for cooling off on a hot summer day than to take a swim in the largest lake of Montenegro? We took a plunge in the deepest area of the lake: about 100 m to the bottom.

End your day at a beach bar

Crowded but nice: Drobni Pijesak is a beach near Sveti Stefan where you can take a rest, a swim and a drink. Pura Vida beach bar offers some great beats with resident dj's playing in the afternoon and the cocktail list is impressive. Would recommend the sangria.
