🌄 Machu Picchu: a once-in-a-lifetime experience
High in the Andes, surrounded by misty mountain peaks and ancient terraces, lies Machu Picchu: one of the most iconic archaeological sites in the world. Visiting this sacred Inca city is not just an outing, but the absolute highlight of any trip through Peru.
We were there early in the morning, at the first entry around 6am. At that time, it was still wonderfully quiet and we almost had Machu Picchu to ourselves. By 9am, a lot more tourists had started to arrive and it suddenly became much busier.
We would recommend visiting Machu Picchu in the morning, then walking around in Aguas Calientes and grabbing something to eat in one of the many restaurants before heading back to Ollantaytambo and Cusco.
How do you get there from Cusco?
Cusco → Ollantaytambo
Taxi or collectivo (± 1h30 – 2h)
