Looking for wild animals in Botlierskop, South Africa
Activity
€ 250 - 500
During a ten day roadtrip to South Africa we experienced the absolute highlight in Botlierskop. This private game reserve is a perfect one for a first-time safari experience. Our game drives were a part of our 2 night stay, and the below is written from that point of view. You can do (half) day trips here as well.
The first of four game drives started at 3:30pm, where we were introduced to the reserve and the animals and enjoyed a beautiful afternoon and sunset. Our ranger, Silas, was the very best. With 11 years of experience in the reserve, he knew every place and every animal. Ask him about a certain spider web and you will know more about spiders than you might wanted to. 😉
During the safari’s we were looking for elephants, giraffes, antilopes, lions, cheetahs, rhinos, hippos, zebras, wildebeests, and many more. The ranger looks for tracks and is in contact with other rangers to find the animals. They don’t attach trackers to them, to make the experience as real as possible. It’s not only seeing the animals that makes the experience incredible, but the information you get about their behaviors, life, encounters with other animals, etc is what truly makes it amazing.
After 3-4 hours you are dropped off at the lodge where you can enjoy your dinner, get a good night sleep and wake up early again to catch the sunrise drive. This one started at 5:45am with a coffee and a (really good!!) muffin. Around 6am you get picked up by your ranger and off you go!
