Day 1: Rocky coast, black beaches and natural pools

We start our Lanzarote roadtrip at the rocky coast in the Island's South West. In the morning you visit Los Hervideros, a short walking path through the rocky cliffs south of El Golfo. The crushing waves will push the water up the holes in these rocks and surprise you with the power of nature. At noon we continue our roadtrip with a stroll at the black beach of El Golfo. The green lake on this beach creates a sight that almost looks like it is from another planet. El Golfo has plenty of seafood restaurants to catch lunch while watching the waves rolling into the beach. After lunch you make a quick stop at the salt flats of Salinas de Janubio for a beautiful vista over the pastel colored salt fields. After a short drive - mainly over bumpy gravel roads - you end up at one of the most beautiful natural pools we have every seen. Spend the late afternoon in this amazing spot. But mind your steps, this is the home of some small fish and crabs. Bring along some beers and snacks and watch the sunset from one of the rocks while dipping your toes in the water.

Afternoon
Las Breñas, Spain

Catching sunset in a natural pool

This is probably one of our favorite places in whole Lanzarote! We found it on Google Maps and simply drove around until we found a dirt road that leaded towards this part of the coast. After founding ourselves a way down the rocks, we had this natural pool almost the entire afternoon to ourselves. The water is of course a bit cold, and there are some small crabs. But enjoying the sun setting down while swimming and dipping your toes in this natural pool will be definitely be in your top 3 of this roadtrip!
