Horseshoe Bend is, like the name suggests, a horseshoe-shaped landmark formed by the Colorado River. It is one of those places you have to see once in your life. On pictures, it almost feels not real that something can be shaped in that exact way. Until you stand in front of it and you see: it IS real!
Once you park your car, it is an easy walk to get to the viewpoint itself (a little over 1 km one way). This hike will take you about 10 to 15 minutes, and along the way you'll encounter plenty of people. Once you get there, the view is absolutely breathtaking and it is the perfect photo spot! Keep in mind that this is a popular spot, but there's plenty of room so you’ll definitely find a spot without people. If you're really keen on a spot and someone is occupying it, it shouldn't take longer than a couple of minutes until it frees up!
There is an official viewpoint that you can recognize by the fences. However, next to the viewpoint there are numerous places that are not secured or surrounded by rails. Some of these places contain big rocks that people climb, at other spots people can stand inches away from (falling in) the abyss. We recommend being careful and not getting too close. No picture is worth risking your life for! Also, the "regular" viewpoint is already pretty amazing.
The entrance fee is $10 per vehicle to park at Horseshoe Bend (which we personally think is quite a lot).
