Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Italy

A day spent in Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Drei Zinnen)

The Tre Cime is the ultimate symbol of the Dolomites. The three peaks are also named as Cima Grande (2999 m), Cima Occidentale (2973 m) and Cima Piccola (2857 m). The hike around the Tre Cime starts from Rifugio Auronzo (2320 m). There is only one road that leads to this place and you have to pay 30 euros te enter when coming with a car, 45 euros when arriving with a camper (open from May till November). Once you're in, there is this huge parking spot. Make sure you arrive here before 8 a.m. to avoid the traffic jam and the chance for not being able to enter in time anymore. When starting at Rigugio Auronzo, the next thing to do is to follow route 101 towards Rifugio Lavaredo (2344 m) for 2,3 kilometers. Now you're walking on the backside of the Tre Cime. On the right hand you can see Cadini di Misurina mountains. At Rifugio Lavaredo you can choose to take the path directly to the foot of Tre Cime, this one is quite steep and it's the fastest way to reach the three peaks. But there is another road with a more scenic view that leads to the Dreizinnenhütte/Rifugio Locatelli (2405 m) when passing the three peaks. The Rifugio Locatelli is visible from the foot of the Tre Cime. After a little snack at the Dreizinnenhütte you can follow the route 105 towards 'Lange Alm', which has some ascending sections. Once you arrived Lange Alm it's just another 2,5 kilometres until you reach Rifugio Auronzo again. With this hike every angle of the three peaks are seen.
