Exploring the surroundings of Lago di Braies
Lago di Braies is the perfect spot to start your trip throughout the Dolomites. There are a lot of hiking possibilities around the lake. It's totally up to you to hike 20 kilometers or just 6 kilometers. In more or less than two hours you manage to make a walk around the entire lake. Even when you don't feel like taking a walk, you can rent a rowboat to enjoy a romantic/funny moment at this magical place. After the hike or the boattrip you may feel hungry. Well no worries, there are a lot of bars and restaurants at Lago di Braies to eat lunch or dine with an insane view. !! Make sure to arrive at the destination as early as possible to avoid the crowd. Trust me, at 7 a.m. the water looks even more blue than at 2 p.m. In high season (July and August) the motorway to Lago the Braies will be closed at 10 a.m. and you will no longer be able to access the parking spaces by car. This is because otherwise it will be too crowded. The only option left is to go there by bus. If you want to experience a rowboat trip at a less crowded area, such as we did, go to Lago di Misurina. The lake is even bigger and the lines to rent a boat for 3o minutes is not that long. We had so much fun and decided to grab some snacks from 'Spar' and take it with us on the little boat. It's a perfect way to spend the afternoon in the sun. Close to Lago di Braies and Lago di Misurina you can find the camping "Alla Baita". It's located in between the mountains and is a perfect spot to spend the night.
