Extremadura is a paradise for nature lovers, and one of its hidden gems is the riverside trail to Charco El Recuéncano.
Start your hike from the Tierra de Budas gates to discover the rugged landscape of Extremadura. Follow the trail through lush greenery and past an abandoned factory, where you will find two rocky beaches that offer an opportunity to take a refreshing dip in the pristine, natural waters.
Continue your hike this side of the river, through forest, ferns and wild lavender fields, to eventually cross the Puente de la Umbrigüela bridge. Now follow a bit further along the other side of the river, to find a little hidden Eden - ideal for a swim, tan and refreshing break.
Once fully recharged, hike back via El Tobogan, and now cross the river barefoot near Charco Las Ilillas - be careful of the slippery rocks - or if the water is too deep, hike back to the road and walk a short section back to your car.
If you're lucky, you might even encounter some local wildlife - we spotted a snake!
