A Farm Stay in Benafim
We wanted to discover all sides of Portugal, the vibrant cities, the historical locations, the beaches as well as the remote locations such as farms in the rural areas of the country. Therefore, Quinta do Freixo was a must stay for us.
Waking up in Vila Nova de Milfontes
To end our stay in Vila Nova de Milfontes, we decided to grab breakfast at one of the most popular places in town: Mabi. They serve fresh croissants in all ways you can imagine. You can order it with basically anything, sweet as well as savory. There was a huge queue lining up to grab something from their shop. I ordered a croissant with pumpkin spread, goat cheese and walnuts. It was deliiiiicious.
Checking-in at Quinta do Freixo
From Vila Nova de Milfontes it took us about 1.40 hours to get to Benafim. In Benafim, we decided to stay at Quinta do Freixo - a fig- and sheep farm located in a rural area of the Algarve. Everything served at the farm is organically made. We relaxed all afternoon and ordered some delicious sangria and snacks by the pool. It ended up being almost 40 degrees so energy for doing anything other than swimming we did not have. We actually had a hike scheduled for 5pm but since it was so extremely warm we rescheduled to the next morning, 10am.
Dinner at Quinta do Freixo
The hotel also had its own restaurant, serving only locally grown and farmed products. It has a gorgeous view of the fields around the hotel and has some delicious dishes on the menu. After our dinner we discovered the grounds and were even able to grab some fresh figs from the trees surrounding the property!
