Langue de Barbarie

On day 5, we drove north to reach a new lodge, where we’d spend the night before heading to Saint-Louis the next day. Along the way, we stopped for a lovely picnic on the beach — or what felt like it. It’s actually the beginning of the Langue de Barbarie, a national park we’d get to explore and learn more about the following morning.

Picnic at La Langue de Barbarie

While heading north to reach Saint Louis the next day, we made a stop at a small sandy spot on La Langue de Barbarie. Our driver and guide prepared a wonderful picnic after a few hours of driving, perfect timing to relax and explore the area. We dipped our feet in the water, enjoyed the sun, had a refreshing drink, and savored a delicious homemade lunch, prepared right on-site. We had fresh fish with a local sauce, veggies, and rice, absolutely delicious! Afterward, we chilled for a bit before hitting the road again. It was a great stop to see something beautiful, learn about the area, and enjoy a special experience. Lodge Ocean & Savane

This lodge is set quite literally on the beach of the Senegal River, right where it begins to stretch into the Langue de Barbarie. It’s a peaceful, beautiful place surrounded by nature. The main building houses the restaurant, bar, and pool, while each room is its own private bungalow — or cozy cabin — beautifully decorated and super comfortable. Many of them open right onto the beach, offering the perfect view for a golden sunset moment you won’t forget.
