The unknown pearl of the Greek islands, Karpathos!
As the second largest island of the Dodecanese islands, Karpathos is the little brother easily overlooked, but that is in a way a good thing because this way you can still enjoy the peace and the quiet atmosphere without noisy nightclubs.
The most fun way to explore the island is by scooter. For hiking you are also at the right destination, follow the narrow roads to the mountain villages with their typical white churches. In places like Mesochori and Spoa the streets are very narrow, all the transportation is by donkeys.
Be sure to visit the the small town of Olympos, which only recently has a road leading to it. Before that, this village could only be reached by boat. There you will encounter the real greek life. UNESCO had designated Olympos as a monument of the cultural heritage and many woman still walk there in traditional clothing.
We stayed in the alimounda mare resort in Karpathos City, a lovely hotel with the most beautiful infinity pool and beach acces. 1000% recommended!!
