Cape Higashi-Hennazaki, located on Miyakojima, is without doubt the most beautiful place in Japan. We can honestly say we’ve never seen a place quite as stunning! The views are nothing short of spectacular, especially from the iconic white lighthouse at the tip of the cape. The way the ocean meets the sky here creates an unforgettable panorama that’s perfect for sunrise. And if you have a drone, make sure to bring it along, too! You can thank us later ;-)
Walking along the 2km trail, we were surrounded by nice flowers and spotted hundreds of limestone formations in the sea. But what stuck with us most was the sunrise. That magical sunrise! It’s hands down the most mesmerizing, amazing, beautiful, peaceful, ... sunrise we’ve ever witnessed. Words can’t describe what we felt when we saw the sun come up, even before the sun was up the sky was already perfect. If you’re lucky enough to catch it, you’ll immediately understand why this spot is famous for New Year’s sunrises.
The lighthouse itself is a bit of a climb, but the view from the top is so worth it. And if you’re feeling hungry, you’ll be happy to know that you might spot a few ice cream trucks nearby for a sweet treat too. When you’re done admiring the sun and sea, head over to Yoshino Kaigan Beach for the ultimate beach experience. It’s only 2 minutes away, too.
