Giethoorn: Venice of the north?

There are many places who call themselves the Venice of the North; Amsterdam, Cambridge, Brugge to name a few. However another big contestant for this title is the small village called Giethoorn, located in the Netherlands. Because Giethoorn is a popular daytrip destination for toerists, especially in summer, it can become pretty crowded here! The best time to visit Giethoorn is in spring or early autumn. I have visited Giethoorn multiple times including in the Winter when it’s very quiet. The photo’s in this article were made in September.
