When you find yourself on the island of Naxos, it's an absolute must to hike up Mt. Zas, the highest peak in the Cyclades.
Starting and finishing in the charming village of Filoti, the hike combines breathtaking views with a deep connection to ancient myths and the natural beauty of Naxos. Meander through olive groves and ancient terraces, say hi to the many farm animals en route and hike your way up the rocky slope to reach the summit at 1,004 meters. There, you will be rewarded with a spectacular panoramic view over the island's rolling hills, valleys, and beaches spread out below, framed by the sparkling Aegean Sea.
The descent is, at times, steep and rocky but very doable and well-marked. During the descent, you will pass by the Cave of Zeus (on your right-hand side). This cool cave is, according to legend, where Zeus was born and raised.
