An afternoon in Park Abbey

That afternoon, we visited one of the best-preserved abbeys in Belgium. It is an architectural and religious site steeped in history. Park Abbey was founded in 1129 by the Duke of Brabant. It became an economic and spiritual center in Leuven. Today, Park Abbey is not just the abbey with the PARCUM Museum, the church, and a cemetery, it also includes the surrounding park. More broadly, it is possible to walk there since there are several paths around and inside the estate. You will also find a small supermarket there as well as many other ongoing projects. We started our visit with the PARCUM Museum, which offered an exhibition called Ecstasy and Orewoet. It allowed us to go up to the attics and enjoy the interior view of this incredible building. We did this visit with audio guides, which helped us better understand the works. We continued our visit to the abbey, which begins with a magnificent corridor opening onto a small interior garden. There are several remarkable rooms with their old charm. It is a wonderful visit, full of history, spirituality, and calm. And it’s an architecturally incredible place. We finished our visit with the church, which contains chairs dating from the 1600s–1700s. I found it amazing how everything was kept intact. We didn't have time to explore the cemetery or the parks and walking paths around it. But I recommend going there because it looks magnificent. The total area is 42 hectares, so there is certainly enough to have a pleasant time.
