Snow-covered mountain peaks, panoramic terraces, authentic villages, and chalets smelling of fondue. These are the ingredients for an adventurous hiking weekend in wintery Wildhaus, Switzerland.
With the train from Zurich, it takes about 1.5 hours to travel. Hop on at Zurich Hauptbahnhof, change in Rapperswil and Watwill to arrive in the beautiful valley of Obertoggenburg (canton of St. Gallen). We chose a 2-day circular hike to explore this valley inside and out. The early snow was the cherry on top.
Those who can handle a few kilometers and elevation gain, in a thick layer of snow, and with culinary indulgence, will enjoy this weekend. The hikes take you past various frozen lakes and a nice bar at the top, with panoramic views and refreshing drinks.
