Pick up your rental 4x4 car

Pick up your rental car. We rented our car + rooftop tent at ASCO Car Hire, which we really recommend. They will pick you up directly at the airport and take you to their car rental office. The drive is about 45 minutes. Once you arrive at their office you will get fully prepared by the team for your adventure on the road. You will get an introduction to all the gear, how to put up the rooftoptent and all modes of the vehicle. Next to that you will also need to watch a driving safety video about road conditions and safety measures thougout Namibia. Asco Car Hire is a specialist in 4x4 Car Rental in Namibia and Southern Africa. We rented a Toyota Hilux with Roof top tent and the vehicle and camping equipment were excellent.

Drive from Windhoek to the Namib Desert

After you picked up your car you'll begin the drive to the Namib Desert. The drive is about 300 km / 4 hours. The Namib Desert is one of the oldest and largest deserts in the world, covering a large part of Namibia, as well as parts of South Africa and Angola. Once you reach the desert, you'll be making your way to the Sesriem area. This is a small settlement close to the southern end of the Naukluft Mountains and the perfect base to visit the Sossusvlei. On your way to Sesriem you will drive via Namibia's highest mountain pass, Spreetshoogte.

Good night Namibia

After a long flight and already a day full of breath taking first impressions, it's time to take a good rest to be fit for the days ahead. We decided to spend the first night in a lodge in Desert Quiver Camp, in the middle of the Namib Desert.
