Discover the lakes of Durmitor
A day hike to Crno Jezero, Zminje Jezero and a wonderful viewpoint over Durmitor
Start: Crno Jezero
Make your way from Zabljak to the entrance of the Durmitor National Park. There is plenty parkspace. Go the the entrance, pay €5 income and walk the broad path to Crno Jezero (black lake). This big lake is loved by many, so expect a lot of people walking and sitting around.
Hike to Zminje Jezero
It's a 1 hour hike to Zminje Jezero (Snake lake). This much less crowded lake is a mirror to the mountainous forest that surrounds it. The path to Zminje Jezero is relatively easy, but make sure you have an app (maps.me or organic maps) to track your route.
Hike up to the viewpoint
Almost 400 meters higher than Crno Jezero, the trees start to disappear and a viewpoint towers over the forests of Durmitor. Here, you can see the mountains surrounding the black lake and the path that eventually leads to Bobotov Kuk, Montenegro's highest peak. Follow the route to Stari Katun to get to this viewpoint. From here on, several other routes are possible: go to the ice caves for example.
Sleep in a wooden hut
Stay the night in the hut 'Rajska Suma' near Zabljak. In this peaceful cabin in the woods, you will surely come to rest after a day of hiking.
