Marseille may feel like an urban jungle, but the city offers so many nice places to cool down during a heat wave. Anyone who says summer in the city isn't fun is definitely lying!
While walking down the coast of Marseille, those with an eye for beauty and detail will find there are so many spots where you can have the perfect beach day. But in the city.
1. Bistrot Plage
Bistrot Plage is known for its orange sun beds. The Bistrot Plage is located just below the corniche, opposite the Vallon des Auffes, with the Mediterranean Sea as its only backdrop.
Psst: make sure you are ready to be looked at, this is a favorites "people watching" spot.
2. Vallon Des Auffes
More into a laid back vibe and looking for a city pool? Walk past Bistrot Plage and discover the pool of Vallon Des Auffes. We went during a HOT summer day mid July, which resulted in a crowdy afternoon with locals splashing around to survive the heat. Think of all kinds of people: older man who want to finish their book, kids playing around and throwing each other in the water, lovers on a first date and friends catching up. We just chilled here all day with our book and our towel. There's a little bar where you can buy some refreshments.
3. Random spots near the water.
Make sure to keep your eyes open. Those who really want to, will find ways to cool down behind bridges, next to busy roads, behind a large rock or walking down some steps.
