Visiting El Torcal de Antequera was one of my favorite experiences of our trip through Andalusia, but that's because I really love to hike. This natural park is known for its limestone rock formations shaped by millions of years of wind and water. We drove there with our rental car and parked at the foot of the mountain, where our two-hour hike began. The trail quickly led us into rugged, untouched nature. Think of jagged rocks, narrow paths, and sweeping views across the valley. Even with the constant breeze, the sun was fierce, so make sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen! :))
At one point, we were lucky enough to spot a wild mountain goat, reminder of how raw and wild this place still is. The hike itself wasn’t overly difficult, but the uneven terrain made it feel adventurous and rewarding. Once we reached the top, we found a small restaurant where you can enjoy a well-deserved drink or meal. We chose to bring our own picnic, a simple lunch of bread and jamon. From there, a shuttle bus conveniently took us back down to the parking area.
El Torcal is a perfect day trip for nature lovers. It’s best to visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the strongest sun, and to experience the park when it’s at its quietest and most magical.
