Portugal
Tower of Belem and Cascais
The oldest building in Belém is the iconic Torre De Belém from 1515. Many locals see this as the most important and well-known building in Portugal, as the tower stands at the exact spot where explorer Vasco da Gama began his expedition. Once inside, it is worth climbing all the way to the top, due to the beautiful view over Lisbon. The various rooms in the tower are also impressive to see.

Belém Tower
On the edge of the Tagus River, you will find the Belém Tower, which was built to see opponents coming in times of war. It is a square tower and was built opposite a similar tower. The Jerónimos Monastery was also built during the same period, and that is why both landmarks were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1983. However, the Belém Tower was already designated a World Heritage site in 1910.

Beach day
The now stylish coastal town of Cascais is located both on the Atlantic Ocean and at the mouth of the Tagus River (Tejo). Cascais is known for its relaxed atmosphere. The nice thing about Cascais is that the atmosphere of the old fishing village beautifully blends with modern times. The beautiful city center is lovely to walk through both during the day and in the evening.
