As one of the bigger villages of the island, Saint-Martin-de-Ré is the perfect mix of the typical charm of the island, nice restaurants, quaint shops and child friendly activities.
We visited the village and enjoyed strolling around the small streets and the harbour, had a nice lunch, visited the shops, played in some play areas, enjoyed an ice cream and we met the ânes-en-culottes!
These donkeys are stationed in the park next to the harbour and are quite the attraction. They wear pants, which is off course a hit with children, and there is a whole history around this which is fun to learn. Kids can ride the donkeys for a small fee in the park.
Saint-Martin-de-Ré has a nice beach, which we didn't visit, but it's definitely on our to do list if we visit this beautiful village again someday! I was immediately dreaming about living here, as it is so charming and fun to walk around.
