Amboy, a once-bustling pit stop on the famous Route 66, is now a ghost town that takes you back in time. Even though Amboy is a small place, the eye-catching neon sign of Roy’s Motel and Cafe ensures you won't miss it as you drive by. Don't let the small size of this town scare you, there's plenty to see and it makes for such a fun detour during your road trip!
The star attraction in Amboy is definitely Roy’s Motel and Cafe. Apart from the awesome sign and vintage car that you can see from a mile away, there are some empty buildings you can wander into and explore in the area. It's pretty cool, and actually a little spooky! All those houses are identical and completely stripped bare, but it still gives you a sense of what it must've been like back then.
Right next to Roy’s Motel and Cafe, there's an old school building. We found this so cool but sadly, you can't go inside since there are locked fences all around it. Even though we could only admire it from a distance, we still found that it really added to the "ghost-town vibe". If you think that was all, you're mistaken! Across the street, you'll spot many other empty buildings, including a church. While the church is off-limits, there are some houses you can check out. They are bigger than the ones near Roy's Motel and Cafe, so definitely worth taking a stroll through them ;-)
If you're looking for a quick but fun detour on your Route 66 road trip, definitely stop by Amboy!
