Pack-rafting and camping in Gaasterland
Go on a pack-rafting adventure in the Gaasterland area, hike through quiet woodland and paddle along the calm Dutch canals. In the evening, set up camp among the locals in the forested camping De Waps.

Pack-rafting in Gaasterland
Always eager to try something new, we combined two of our favorite hobbies into a full-day packrafting adventure - and found it the perfect way to explore the Gaasterland region. We began with a hike through fields and forest, reaching the border of the IJselmeer (a great spot for a summer swim) before finding a wooden jetty to inflate our rafts. From there, we paddled along tranquil canals, stopped for lunch beside a scenic lake and later hiked back through fern-covered woodland. A day well spent. If you're keen to give it a go, we can recommend renting gear via Woodssteps, a small local business. Optional to order a packed lunch.

Camping De Waps
We pitched our tent under the trees at the lovely Camping De Waps, where our designated spot even came with a picnic table - super handy! While the campsite is fairly big, the pitches are well laid out and sectioned off to allow for plenty of privacy. The highlight for us was definitely the little on-site shop, serving fresh coffee and croissants in the morning.
