After a long drive from Dublin Airport, I approached the second city of the country, Cork. The straight highway gave way to a winding provincial road that made its way through the rolling Irish countryside. The views became more and more beautiful as I neared my final destination of the day, Baltimore. This coastal town of 300 inhabitants is in no way comparable to its larger namesake in the US. Baltimore is mainly known for the Baltimore Beacon, a remarkable white pillar built atop a cliff. Since the 19th century, the Baltimore Beacon has served as a navigation beacon and helps ships navigating the treacherous waters off the south coast of Ireland. I just managed to take a photo before the last sunlight disappeared behind a low-hanging cloud.
