Watching the sunrise over Mount Bromo was one of the best experiences I had when traveling in Indonesia. This volcano has a height of 2,329 meters and has an active crater at the top. It’s located in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park which offers a magnificent landscape. The mountain is surrounded by “the Sea of Sand”: sulfuric sand that covers an area of 8 square kilometers. This results in an otherworldly scenery. A jeep tour to Mount Bromo is one of the most popular activities to do when you’re in East Java. You can also hike op the mountain yourself. By doing the tour, the jeep will first take you to a viewpoint so you can watch the sunrise over Mt Bromo from a distance. After the sun is up, you will continue your trip to the volcano itself. Here you have to walk through the moon-like landscape before heading up 250 stairs. Once at the top you’re able to have a look in the smokey crater. Tip: you can also book a combined tour to visit both Mount Bromo and the Ijen Crater.
