One of our favorite places in Buenos Aires is Jardin Japones, a Japanese garden in the middle of the city. These gardens were built in 1967 for a visit from Japan’s then-Crown Prince Akihito and Princess Michiko, and they’ve been a cultural gem in Buenos Aires ever since. We’ve visited our fair share of Japanese gardens (both in and outside of Japan), and the ones in BA definitely match the vibe and quality of the ones in Japan!
There are tons of different things you can admire here. If you’re after that typical Japanese garden photo, feel free to take some photos of the beautiful bridges crossing the koi-filled pond. And if you’re after something more unique, head over to the Japanese peace bell that’s quietly tucked among the trees near the pagoda. Other than that, we saw pathways lined with katsura and azaleas that made us forget we were still in Argentina for a moment!
There’s even a Japanese Cultural Center with a shop full of handmade Japanese crafts and seeds, so if you’re feeling inspired to take home a little piece of this place, you can grab a mini bonsai or some tea. Right before leaving the gardens, we highly recommend capping off your visit at the garden’s café. It overlooks the pond and is a great spot to take it all in for one last time!
