Join me on a daytrip to the city that isn't as popular as it should be: apparently there are those people that are not a fan of Napels, and those that have fallen in love with it. I hope to convince you to be the second type of people after reading this!

Daytrip to Napels to explore its culture, food and history

I took a direct regional train from Caserta into Napoli, which took me about 35 minutes and €4. Since I was curious about the local pastries and had an empty stomach, I first walked 10 minutes to Pasticceria Carraturo Vittorio to try sfogliatelle riccia and sfogliatella frolla. The first one is made with puff pastry, the second one with shortcrust pastry. Both equally delicious if you ask me. I took the metro to the famous Toledo metro station, which is apparently chosen as one of the most beautiful metro stations in the world. It didn't disappoint! Then I walked through the Galleria Umberto I, which is really similar to the famous galleria in Milan. So shopping lovers: this is the place to be! The Palazzo Reale di Napoli had been on my bucket list for years, and was the main reason for this daytrip. I had bought a ticket beforehand for both the palace and the hanging gardens, which was €17 and absolutely worth it! This royal palace, dating back to 1600, has amazing architecture, an insane view from the hanging gardens over the bay of Napels, impressive art and decor that has been protected throughout all those years and a garden called 'Giardino romantico'. What more do you need from a palace visit? On my way to lunch, I walked through the Maradonna quarter where there was such a lively atmosphere and buzz. Pizzeria Starita offered a selection of Napolitan pizzas, but I went for something less conventional, that a local on a website recommended: corna di Maradonna.

Walking through the charming streets of Napels

If you want to take a more relaxed approach to the city, or want to get a (better) feeling of the true character of Napoli, I suggest you to just walk around on foot. Napoli's charm lies in the small alleyways, all of the stairs, the laundry hanging above your head and the streetart that you can spot everywhere. Make sure to walk through the Maradona quarter (put in your maps 'Murales di Maradona). Another interesting street is where you find the Palazzo dello Spagnolo, some churches and several stands where locals buy their food.
