Georgia
On the road to Mestia
A long drive, first glimpses of the countryside and the cosy town of Mestia.

Long drive to Mestia
To make the most of our limited time, we arranged for a driver to meet us at the airport and drive us straight to Mestia, the starting point of our 3-day trek. An 8h drive meant the perfect setting to catch up on some sleep, get some first glimpses of the quiet countryside and learn that driving in Georgia means you'll often have to give way to dogs, cows, sheep and even pigs.
Rent a car and drive yourself or hire a driver for some more comfort (and option to snooze en route).

Wander around Mestia
Arrived in Mestia around 2pm, which meant we took the opportunity to stretch our legs after the long drive and explore the small town. We hiked up to one of the beautiful local churches, surrounded by colourful wildflowers, pet about 20 stray cats and dogs and had our first taste of the local cuisine (and beers) at Lushnu Qor Restourant Beer Garden.

Bonfire, sauna and sleep at Bako's Garden Inn
With tired legs and eyes we checked in to Bako's Garden Inn. We opened a few beers around the campfire, made friends with the locals (cats) and enjoyed the newly-installed outdoor sauna. Instantly ready for bed!
